Raising goats is hard work but its my pride and joy. They are a sourse
of entertainment for me and I find myself relaxing when I'm out there sitting with them. I often pray, take pics, give treats,
and loving them to pieces.
My herd consists of mostly percentage and pure breds. I am currently working
at going all Fullblood and Purebred and slowly reducing the number of percentage does. There will be a few that will be here
for life as they are special in their own ways. These goats are very special to me as they keep me grounded and they are like
family to me. I tell them all my secrets and they don't tell anyone. I care for them as if they were my own but they really
belong to the Lord who made all things so I am just their keeper.
I started raising goats in 99 after falling in love with them
in highschool 2 years before. Naturally I chose the best breed to start with which is Boer Goats as they are easier to tend
to and I don't have to milk them like a Dairy Goat or shear them like Sheep have to be.
I check on the goats daily as I strongly believe that is the only way everything
should be done. That way any that is down is caught early and any new kids on the ground get actual birthdates. I strive to
be an honest breeder and knowing that if I don't check on them daily especially durring breeding and kidding season, I wouldn't
be able to keep accurate records of when each doe was bred and to whom or when kids were born if I didn't do daily checks.
It also wouldn't be right to them if I didn't check on them daily to ensure their health and well being. By doing what I do
my goats are happy and for those who have purchased goats from me see a happy goat and have been pleased with them as well.
It is hard to believe I have now been raising goats for 10 years. Yes I know
that there are others who have been in it longer and I congratulate them. 10 years is a milestone for me and I will continue
to raise goats hopefully for many years to come.
